OMAN AVIATION SERVICES (OAS) - was founded by Royal Sultani Decree No. 52/81 on 24th May 1981, although, its roots were firmly planted in 1972 when Oman International Services Company Limited (OIS) commenced operations as the Ground Handling Company at Seeb International Airport.
OAS is a 100% Omani Joint Stock Company with fully paid Ten Million Five Hundred Thousand Riyals Omani (R.O. 10.5 million). The Government of the Sultanate of Oman owns 35% of the shares and the remaining 65% is owned by the public.
OAS currently employs a total of more than 2,400 employees throughout its organization. OAS provides the ground handling services at Seeb International Airport, Salalah Airport, and Khasab, Airports.
Among the services provided by OAS at Seeb International Airport are:
GROUND HANDLING
Provides Passenger and Baggage Handling, Check-in, Customer Services, Load Control, Flight Planning and Flight Operation Services, Ramp Handling, Loading and Offloading, Cabin Cleaning of the aircraft. Check-in and Load Control are fully automated with facilities to process passengers to their final destinations. Communication is enhanced by Motorola Trunked Radio and Intercom Systems. Presently, 26 Schedule carriers avail the above services.
CARGO SERVICES
The Cargo Business Unit is the sole-provider of cargo handling services on imports, exports and transit shipments carried on all international and domestic carriers operating through Seeb International Airport.
Cargo volume handled at this airport was around 48,465 tons during 2002. Imports accounted for 63% of the business, while Exports contributed a high 37%. The Cargo Business Unit continues to professionalize its handling services through automation by utilizing the Mercury Cargo Ground Handling System (MCHS).
CATERING SERVICES
Provides one of the best in-flight Catering Services in the Gulf for Scheduled and Chartered airlines operating through Seeb International Airport, mainly Oman Air, Gulf Air, British Airways, Air India, indian Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Swiss Air, Sudan Air, Saudia, Pakistan International, SriLankan Airlines, etc. Also operates the VIP Lounge, Gulf Air's Falcon Lounge, and Oman Air's CIP Lounges at Seeb and Salalah International Airports. The new Catering unit opened a year ago with state of the art facilities is capacble of producing upto 15,000 meals.
ENGINEERING & MAINTENANCE SERVICES
Provides maintenance support to Oman Air fleet of aircraft comprising of B737G, ATR42-500 AND Fokker F27. Additionally, the Division provides Technical Ground Handling to customer airlines operating through Seeb International Airport.
Oman Air – Engineering & Maintenance Division has established high standards Aircraft Support Workshops facilities which provide maintenance and servicing aircraft component and other aircraft related items such as Wheels and Brakes, Safety Equipment, Sheet Metal, Avionics and Batteries workshop.
Oman Air – Engineering & Maintenance Division has been awarded JAR-145 Maintenance Organization Approval on 01 October 2002 which gives us authority to certify European airlines transiting at Seeb International Airport and releasing some aircraft components from our workshops under the JAA release authority.
Oman Air – Oman Air is the National Airline of the Sultanate of Oman, it began its operation in 1993.
Currently Oman Air operates to 21 international destination which include Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait, Jeddah, Karachi, Mumbai, Trivandrum, Chennai, Colombo, Cairo, Beirut, Zanzibar, Dar assalaamand Mombassa and 3 domestic destination Salalah, Khasab and Muscat being the base, Oman Air got a code share agreement with gulf air for Bahrain and with Swiss for Zurich, through a relatively young airline it has established a strong market presence in all the routes that it operates.
The airline has a fleet consisting of two B737-800, THREE Boeing 737-700, FOUR ATR 42-500.
