Lars Steffen and Robert Flaim led Workshop 9, focusing on strategies to keep fraud out of the domain space. The session emphasized proactive measures and collaboration within the domain industry.

Proactive Approaches:

The workshop highlighted the proactive measures taken by registrars and registries to combat DNS abuse. Examples included the Basque region's registry, which actively monitors and takes responsibility for its domain zone.

Use of AI and Machine Learning:

Belgium's contribution demonstrated the use of AI and machine learning to prevent abusive domain registrations from being delegated and causing harm. Refr AI further discussed predicting potential abuse before it happens.

Collaboration and Information Exchange:

Collaboration within the industry was stressed as a key factor. Various initiatives, such as topDNS and contributions from DNSR and the Global Cyber Alliance, were mentioned as important platforms for exchanging information and intelligence.

Regulation and Self-Regulation:

The session also covered regulatory influences, such as NIS2, which are impacting the industry. Contributions from REACT and ICANN discussed the push for more regulatory obligations and self-regulation to address DNS abuse effectively.

Community Building:

Emphasis was placed on the importance of building personal connections within the community to foster trust and effective communication.
