Digital scams have become part of daily life in Brazil — yet they remain largely invisible in official statistics. While increasingly sophisticated and widespread, these crimes are still typically filed under generic fraud categories, creating serious blind spots for enforcement and policy.
On the 3rd of June 2025, the GASA Brazil Chapter will host From Fraud to Digital Scams: The Need for a New Approach, a virtual event bringing together public prosecutors, researchers, and fraud experts to explore how Brazil’s crime classification framework must evolve to reflect the true scale of digital fraud.
