About the event

We invite you to the inaugural GASA Mexico Chapter Establishment Meeting, where key stakeholders from across Mexico will convene to discuss the scope of online fraud in the region and explore collaborative strategies to combat scams effectively.

The discussions will be led by:

  • Rogelio Garduño Ruvalcaba, Executive Director of Fraud Prevention and Claims, Scotiabank

  • Gaston Huerta, Director Fraud Risk, Citibanamex

  • Stephanie Scotto Amelotti, Vice President - Security Solutions, LATAM, Mastercard

  • Jorij Abraham, Managing Director, Global Anti-Scam Alliance

The goal of the meeting is to bring together all Mexican stakeholders for the first time to discuss the scope of online fraud in the region and explore the steps that can be taken collectively to turn the tide on scams.

The Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) works to protect consumers worldwide against scams by bringing together governments, law enforcement agencies, consumer protection organisations, financial authorities, telecom providers, social media platforms, Internet service providers, and cybersecurity companies. By fostering collaboration, sharing intelligence, and defining joint actions, GASA aims to enhance global efforts to combat scams.

Globally, more than $1 trillion was lost to scams last year, affecting one in four individuals worldwide. This figure represents only a fraction of the issue, as merely 7% of scam victims report the crime to law enforcement. Urgent and coordinated action is necessary to address this growing problem.

Together with Scotiabank and Mastercard, GASA has convened a meeting of interested parties in Mexico to discuss a proposal for establishing a Mexican chapter of GASA. If the proposal is supported, the chapter’s objectives will align with the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, with a specific focus on disrupting scams in Mexico. While individual efforts may struggle to create systemic change, a united approach will amplify the impact.
