Uniting Against Scams: How Anti-Scam Centres Can Strengthen National Fraud Defences

Updated: Oct 14

Date of Event: 13 October 2025 Event: GASA Webinar

Fraud is a global challenge that no single organisation can solve alone. The latest GASA webinar, Uniting Against Scams: How Anti-Scam Centres Can Strengthen National Fraud Defences, explored how national anti-scam centres can unite data, intelligence, and resources across sectors to build stronger and more coordinated responses to scams.

Developed in partnership with the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), Euroconsumers, PwC, and Cifas, the accompanying report — A Global Model for National Anti-Scam Centres — highlights international best practices from Australia, Singapore, Canada, and Taiwan. It outlines how collaboration between governments, industry, and civil society can transform fragmented efforts into a cohesive global defence network.

Moderated by Jorij Abraham, Managing Director of the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, the discussion featured:

  • Els Bruggeman, Head of Policy and Enforcement – Euroconsumers

  • Simon Miller, Director of Policy, Strategy, Communications and Marketing – Cifas

  • Alex West, Director, Fraud Risk and Financial Crime – PwC

Together, they examined how national anti-scam centres can centralise reporting, improve victim support, and enable smarter cross-sector data sharing. Speakers emphasised that while every country’s model will differ, the essential ingredients remain the same — leadership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to protect citizens from fast-evolving scam threats.

The conversation also highlighted the human impact of scams, the urgent need for sustainable funding, and the role of artificial intelligence in both enabling and combating fraud. With billions lost globally each year, the panellists called for governments and industry to treat scam prevention as a national priority and to invest in coordinated, well-resourced responses.

Watch the full discussion below to learn how cross-sector collaboration can power the next generation of national fraud defences.
